Health assessments provide the opportunity for your GP to undertake an in-depth assessment of your health. The assessment will cover medical, physical, psychological and social aspects of health. All people aged 75 years and older, or 55 years or over for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people, who are living in the community or in hostel level aged care accommodation. Your doctor may recommend a health assessment to help maintain good health and address areas that may not be covered in a typical consultation, such as nutrition or specific health concerns like hearing or sleep issues.
You’ll start with a 45-minute session with a nurse, followed by a consultation with your doctor. They will review:
- Recent health and mood
- Visits to other healthcare providers
- Lifestyle factors (smoking, alcohol, nutrition, exercise)
- Living conditions and safety
- Social support and mobility
- Medications and immunisations
- Basic health metrics (weight, height, blood pressure, etc.)
Health assessments are covered by Medicare, thus no charge to the patient
