About this Service

Ferinject is a medication given by IV infusion to treat iron deficiency conditions. Depending on the clinical circumstance, the doctor will use either 500mg or 1 gm of Ferinject. Please obtain the medication from your pharmacy before your appointment.

On the Day

You will be asked to sign a consent form to be sure you understand the procedure. Please feel free to ask any questions to clarify.

Your blood pressure will be checked prior to the treatment and afterwards.

Please remain at the practice for 30 minutes after the infusion, to be sure you have no adverse reaction.

What to Expect

The procedure is very similar to having a blood sample taken.  A small needle is placed in the vein and taped in position.

It is then flushed out with saline to ensure it is properly placed, with no leakage.

The medication is slowly administered over the next 15-20 minutes, then flushed through again with saline.

The doctor will be present doing the infusion, so please communicate any concerns or symptoms.

Effects and Benefits

The benefit of iron infusion may take a few days to appreciate, but most people will feel less fatigued and may notice other benefits.

By delivering iron directly into the bloodstream, this treatment helps combat fatigue, weakness, and other symptoms associated with low iron levels. Ferinject provides rapid replenishment of iron stores and is well-tolerated by patients, minimizing the need for frequent oral iron supplementation, which can often lead to gastrointestinal side effects. This method ensures efficient absorption and fast relief, making it an excellent choice for those seeking a quicker and more comfortable way to address their iron deficiency and regain their vitality.
