Patients are encouraged to consider a Comprehensive Medical Assessment during their 40s to address key health concerns, including:

  • Reducing cardiovascular risk
  • Men’s mental health
  • Prostate cancer discussions

ECG

The spikes and dips on an electrocardiogram (ECG) help us diagnose the cause of unexplained chest pain, rapid or irregular heartbeats, and other heart-related symptoms like shortness of breath, dizziness, or fainting. ECGs are also valuable in evaluating the impact of other conditions or risk factors, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking, diabetes, or a family history of early heart disease.

Spirometry

Using a spirometer, to conduct preliminary tests that measure lung volume and airflow. These results help determine if you have an obstructive lung disease, such as asthma, or a restrictive disease like pulmonary fibrosis, so the appropriate management plans can be made. If you’re scheduled for a spirometry test, please remember to avoid eating a large meal before the test, as a full stomach can restrict lung expansion. Additionally, refrain from smoking or engaging in strenuous exercise for at least six hours prior to the test. These tests are simple, safe, and generally well-tolerated, with minimal side effects or complications.

75 Year Plus Health Assessment

Health assessments provide the opportunity for your GP to undertake an in-depth assessment of your health. The assessment will cover medical, physical, psychological and social aspects of health. • Recent health and mood
  • Visits to other healthcare providers
  • Lifestyle factors (smoking, alcohol, nutrition, exercise)
  • Living conditions and safety
  • Social support and mobility
  • Medications and immunisations
  • Basic health metrics (weight, height, blood pressure, etc.)

Health assessments are covered by Medicare, thus no charge to the patient
